The
circumstances surrounding the mysterious death
of General Sikorski in 1943 are offered in this
intense film, which theorizes a possible conspiracy
that culminated with the General's assassination.
Director Anna Jadowska has adapted her TV series
into this film which takes a documentary style
look at the last days of the General's life. Unflinchingly
realistic in form, the piece takes a guess at
the political intrigue that may have led to the
General's death, and imagines what his effect
would have been to Poland's role in negotiations
had he survived. Using split screens, close camera
work, and cinema verite, this feature underlines
the real world implications of the General's elimination
during World War II. Emotionally charged as it
portrays his relationship with his daughter (who
possibly died with him), the film is sure to inspire
discussion on political pragmatism and how far
we are willing to let it go.
